In the first run-off neither of France's two mainstream parties could garner enough votes to make it through to the second round. Instead Macron received 24.01 percent of the votes, while Le Pen followed closely with 21.30 percent. Voting in the French Guiana capital started at 8:00 am local time (11:00 GMT) and polling stations are closing at 18:00 (21:00 GMT), but the results will be announced at the same time as in France, at 20:00 (18:00 GMT) on Sunday evening. On Friday it was revealed that a hacker had released a large amount of Marcon's En Marche! Party campaign emails. Authorities have prohibited media from publishing the leaked material, as it may influence the outcome of the election. Recent opinion polls suggest that Macron is currently in the lead. Voter (French): "I have listened to Macron. Experts have considered that he will send France into debt and who is going to pay? Obviously the band of sheep. Marine Le pen has good intentions, I know but, taking France out of Europe, I don't see the necessity. Well, I didn't find anything fine in either one or the other." Voter (French): ""We have to be careful, control all what is proposed, decided, to be sure that it won't go against our expectations. On one side there is uncertainty, and on the other side there is danger, so uncertainty is a better choice." Voter (French): "Listen, currently, French Guiana is going through a deep social crisis and I am expecting from the next president that he will able to meet our expectations for a social and economic and cultural development for the region." It borders Brazil to the east and south, and Suriname to the west. Its 83,534 km2 (32,253 sq mi) area has a very low population density of less than 3 inhabitants per km2, with half of its 239,450 people in 2012[1] living in the metropolitan area of Cayenne, its capital. By land area, it is by far the largest overseas region of France. As an oversea region, it is inside the European Union. The addition of the adjective "French" in English comes from colonial times when five such colonies existed (The Guianas), namely from west to east: Spanish Guiana (now Guayana Region in Venezuela), British Guiana (now Guyana), Dutch Guiana (now Suriname), French Guiana, and Portuguese Guiana (now Amapá, a state in far northern Brazil). French Guiana and the two larger countries to the north and west, Guyana and Suriname, are still often collectively referred to as the Guianas and comprise one large shield landmass. A large part of the department's economy derives from the presence of the Guiana Space Centre, now the European Space Agency's primary launch site near the equator. Nestled on the Northern side of South America's Eastern edge, the forgotten French Guiana stands the testament of time reminding us of the long forgotten French colonization of the 19th century. An infusion of French culture and history intermingle with South America's ancient indigenous populations. Flying high above the rich ecosystems of the Amazon rainforest, a symphony of sounds radiate vertically above the clouded canopy. Navigating through the dusty streets of the capital city of Cayenne, it's a city society with flavours and experiences unrivaled in its diversity. Their flag and tongue may be both French in form, but their people, are far from Parisian. French Roots in the heart of the Amazon jungle. This is French Guiana.
